Stablehands Pottery

Stablehands Pottery is located at the Honey Field Farm, 6217 Ross Road in Abbotsford. The pottery comprises classrooms, a handbuilding room, a glazing room and a kiln room. Students in Class The classrooms contain six wheels, damp box and shelving. The glazing room contains a sink, work benches, and areas dedicated to glazing, and storage of chemicals, glazes and equipment. The handbuilding room contains a slab roller, tables to work on and large rotating tables for sculptures. It also houses the pugmill used for recycling clay. The kiln room contains two electric kilns, once dedicated to bisque firing, which is fired when it is full. The second kiln is used for bisque and glaze firing.

bisqueware ready for glazing Stablehands Pottery was created when Herman Venema retired and closed his pottery studio after 52 years. Thankfully, some of his equipment has found a new home at Stablehands studio. Some equipment came from the WildRice studio in Burnaby, when Celia and Keith Rice Jones retired after 34 years. The history and legacy of these two pottery studios is cherished at the new Stablehands Pottery Studio.

There are currently three potters based out of the Stablehands Pottery, Sara Mayfield (owner), Bev Field (general labourer and dog groomer) and Emma Frost (Queen). Their pottery is on display, and may be purchased throughout the year.
